Features & Activities
Description
RECUCA (Recorrido de la Cultura Cafetera) is one of the most beloved experiences in the Coffee Region of Colombia. It blends learning and fun, and it brings the Coffee Cultural Landscape to life for visitors of all ages.
Your visit begins in the fields. A guide leads a gentle, flat trail through the coffee plants while explaining the work behind a healthy crop. The walk lasts about 30 minutes and is suitable for children, families, and seniors.
Next, you step into the role of a harvester. Dress in the classic farmer attire used in the region and learn the picking technique. Then practice a mock harvest and receive “payment” with a note issued by the Banco del Recolector. It’s a playful moment that also honors the people who make Colombian coffee possible.
After the field experience, you discover the post-harvest journey of the bean. You see depulping, drying, hulling, roasting, and grinding, just as the early settlers did in this part of Colombia. Clear demonstrations, easy explanations, and hands-on steps make the process simple to understand. The tour usually ends with a fresh cup, so you can taste what you learned.
RECUCA offers two easy options:
Passport – A guided experience of about three hours. Enjoy the walk through the coffee trees, the harvester role-play, and the full post-harvest circuit.
Passport + Lunch – The same three-hour tour plus a traditional lunch, perfect for families and small groups.
Because the route is flat and the activities are interactive, the experience is ideal for all ages. It is educational, authentic, and genuinely fun. Above all, it is a vivid way to understand coffee, culture, and life in the Eje Cafetero.
